President Mahama Launches Free Sanitary Pads For Girls In Schools Initiative

On the 24th of April, 2025, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, launched the Free Sanitary Pad for Girls in schools initiative at the SDA cluster of schools park, at Mamprobi in Accra.
The event, themed “Improving Menstrual Health and Hygiene for Girls for Quality Education”, was aimed at providing free sanitary pads to 2 million girls in public basic and second cycle schools.
In his address, President, John Dramani Mahama, noted that “no girl in Ghana should miss school because of menstrual period” He emphasized Government’s commitment to providing sanitary pads every month to reduce absenteeism caused by the lack of menstrual hygiene products and also empower the girls to manage their periods with dignity.
Also present at this event was the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, His Royal Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, king and custodian of the Ga tradition, the Inspector-General of Schools, of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority, Prof. Azeko Salifu Tahiru, heads of institutions, other sector ministers and stakeholders.
