The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) formerly the National Inspectorate Board (NIB) is an autonomous agency under the Ministry of Education (MoE) established by the Education Act, (2008) Act 778 as amended by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020, (Act 1023).
The Act 1023 mandates the Authority to “develop, publish, promote, and enforce highest quality standards and guidelines for quality education in public and private pre-tertiary education institutions” in Ghana. The Authority is also responsible for regulating all of Ghana’s public and private pre-tertiary schools.
In operationalising its mandate, the Authority has developed a Legislative Instrument (LI) which draws on International Best Practices and relevant experiences.
Currently, NaSIA offers five core services to its regulated entities namely, School Establishment, Licensing of schools, School Inspections, School Monitoring and Evaluation, and School Ownership Transitions.
To achieve its mandate as stipulated by the Act 1023, the Authority uses an Inspection Evaluation Framework (IEF) to conduct four (4) types of inspections: Whole School Inspection, Performance Inspection, Compliance Inspection and Investigative Inspection. The IEF is essentially the tool that is used in determining the basic principles of inspections and the judgments that can be made from the inspection of schools.
The Authority’s headquarters is located at Roman Ridge in Accra with five regional offices in the Ashanti, Western and Eastern, Northern and Bono regions. Plans are far advanced to open regional offices across the country.
Mission
NaSIA’s mission is to improve learning outcomes by ensuring the highest quality standards and guidelines for quality education in both public and private Pretertiary institutions. NaSIA inspects, licenses and regulates all institutions and proprietors providing education at the Pretertiary level. We share individual reports to schools, parents and proprietors and aggregate reports to the Minister for Education and the Education Select Committee of Parliament.
Vision
NaSIA’s vision is to be a Regulator that generates and utilises evidence to improve learning outcomes in all Pretertiary educational institutions and further helps to create a purpose-driven Pretertiary education system in Ghana.
